Though I don’t see any paradox here, it’s perfectly possible and linear for Cyclonus to be created in 2006, play his part in destroying Shockwave in 2008, travel back 20 years and meet his end there. It’s ironic that Megatron has been the leader so often prone to mental illness, and here’s Shockwave, normally so clear, purposeful, and logical, descended into self-pity and paralysis due to his knowledge of his death in 2008 and the possible paradox he’s created by executing his would-be assassin Cyclonus. Scourge and his Nebulan gun Fracas are fearful of ambush by Shockwave, only to find him perched on his throne wallowing in his own misery. With the rift in time and space swirling around 1989 Earth, Scourge and Fracas blast a hole in the side of ‘Fortress Decepticon’, the ‘con’s original base, which Shockwave now inhabits and where Cyclonus met his demise so recently (see the 1988 story Dry Run). Thankfully Dan Reed is back on pencilling duty for main strip (his work on Time Wars has been superb). This doesn’t stand-up to scrutiny however, as Autobots including Goldbug and Grimlock were part of the huge body count which resulted from Starscream’s Underbase-fuelled rampage and shouldn’t be around for Time Wars if already incapacitated. Meanwhile the Transformation page asserts that Time Wars takes place “in entirety” after the events of the Underbase Saga, which it interrupted. Such is the nature of comic book covers of course.
